The 7-day Accra itinerary for Detty December 2026

Accra in 7 days: the plan at a glance

Dates follow the 2026 calendar as announced. Detty Rave is set for 27 December and AfroFuture for 28 to 30 December at El Wak Sports Stadium. Afro Nation Ghana is expected in late December, so leave one night flexible until it confirms.

Day 1: land, sort your essentials, eat

1. Clear the airport at Kotoka International (ACC) with your passport, visa and yellow fever certificate ready.
2. Turn on your eSIM or buy an MTN or Telecel SIM in the arrivals hall.
3. Book an Uber, Bolt or Yango to your accommodation rather than taking an unmarked taxi.
4. Eat jollof or waakye for lunch, then nap. Jet lag and December heat stack up fast.

Day 2: Cape Coast Castle day trip

Cape Coast Castle is about 3 hours from Accra by road. Leave by 6am to beat traffic, tour the castle and its Door of No Return, then add Kakum National Park's canopy walkway if you have energy. Read our full Cape Coast day trip guide.

Day 3: markets by day, Detty Rave by night

Spend the morning at Makola Market for fabric and beads and the afternoon in Jamestown, Old Accra's fishing district with its lighthouse and street art. At night, go to Detty Rave, the Mr Eazi party most often credited with naming the season. Check the Detty Rave 2026 guide for timings and tips.

Days 4 to 6: AfroFuture weekend

AfroFuture is Accra's flagship festival, formerly known as Afrochella. Pace yourself across three nights:

• Sleep late and eat a proper brunch before each night.
• Do one daytime activity only: the pool, the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, or a beach.
• Book return rides in advance or agree a pickup point. Networks congest at the gates.
• Bojo Beach on day 6 is the calmest recovery spot near the city, with a short boat crossing to a sandbar.

Day 7: New Year's Eve in Accra

Accra's New Year's Eve starts with church crossover services at midnight and then moves to beach and rooftop parties until sunrise. Book a table or ticket in advance, and plan a ride home after 4am when surge pricing eases.
